Today, I went for a walk after work.
It must have been twenty degrees.
The snow in Pittsburgh had been falling in huge satisfying flakes
on and off all day.
It was quiet.
The frigid air felt fresh in my lungs.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m from Michigan
or because I enjoy being outside
but nothing clears the mind quite like
a brisk walk on a cold day.
Especially after 10 hours in a stiff office
where the cubicles sprawl across the floor like endless honeycombs.
where it has become easy to feel passed over.
But when I’m outside
my feet crunching through fresh snow
I don’t mind being a small thing.
